Within the grounds of the Snug Harbor Cultural Center, The Botanical Garden is a 53 acre natural woodland with over 20 specimen gardens.
Founded in 1977, The Botanical Gardens is constantly evolving and offers many classes for school age children, which afford a unique learning experience combining orticulture, history and art.
The Botanical Gardens has created a number of gardens which include representations from particular periods along with contemporary styles. Highlights include the Garden of Healing which features the World Trade Center Educational Tribute, the Italian Garden modeled after Florence Italy’s Villa Gamberaia, the White Garden inspired by Vita Sackville-West’s famous garden in Sissinghurst, England and the Connie Gretz Secret Garden modeled after Frances Hodgson Burnett’s children’s classic complete with a child-sized castle and a maze.
